Because the Galactic Federation sees the world differently from Samus, the art style completely shifts to be more like Federation Force! The hardest part of any Metroid game is finding where to go next to get the next item, so all the items in the game are available from the start for ease of play. You now play as a Galactic Federation marine setting out to find Samus Aran! The Galactic Federation marine will actually be a fully customizable avatar which you can then use in the game's main mode: A Metroid Battle Royal multiplayer mode. Gating situations include accessing locations across long stretches of water or acid, making air current-boosted jumps walking across sections of floor that fall down when there's too much weight on them, and (just came to me) weighing down a lever without the armor, then running up the newly-created ramp with the armor so as not to make it drop when running up the ramp.Įventually, after time traveling for a while, something happens where Samus gets stuck in the past. The cost is higher vulnerability to damage and knockback. This armor dramatically reduces Samus's weight, enabling her to run across liquid surfaces, follow air currents, perform additional advanced maneuvers and altogether drastically raises her speed. I can also confirm that there will be at least one new suit called Mercurius Armor. That's right, when we travel to the past, we will finally get to see what the Chozo were like, how they lived, and what sort of events that transpired when they were still around. I think Samus will also learn what these Unknown Items are as she travels to the past and sees this Chozo civilization in its prime. This beam will allow you to solve puzzles like shooting a switch that was only functional in the past. There will be a Space Time Beam, with a funny reference to the Super Metroid glitch in the item's inventory text. There will be time travel mechanics, just as Tanabe hinted at in past interviews. It won't be a hunter like Sylux or whatever, but if you've seen the Alien movies you may be in for an awesome surprise! Oh yeah, and as for Sylux, he's obviously in the game, but we won't really see him all that much until later on. I know one boss will be a sort of hunter that tracks you down throughout the game, leading up to a pretty awesome final encounter with it. However, Ridley will NOT be in Prime 4 this time.ĭue to time I can't really go into detail on some of the new bosses in the game. As for Meta Kraid, as you could guess, he will pretty much be a recurring boss throughout the game, kind of like Meta Ridley in the original trilogy. There's no confirmation yet on what this will be, but I think it would be pretty cool if it led up to Samus getting a new suit. However, after you fight him for a bit, he digs away and leaves behind a mysterious item, kind of like the Unknown Items in Zero Mission. The ground starts rumbling, then it cracks and splits open, and we finally get our first glimpse of Meta Kraid in a Prime game! Like Super Metroid, the fight starts off with just his top half. So after exploring the ruins and gathering some classic abilities (Boost Ball is back and it's pretty cool how they introduce it), Samus enters this giant sort of arena inside one of the temples. I'd take that with a grain of salt though. I'm not sure if this will be true or maybe it's just an unfinished idea that got scrapped, but I heard this is actually where the Chozo first created Mother Brain. This is actually an ancient Chozo civilization, far more complicated than the likes of what we've ever seen before. We see Samus land on some kind of stone landing pad that also seemed to serve as an altar, and all around her in the distance are vast, towering temples of Mayan inspiration. The game starts off with a landing sequence similar to Prime 1, where it's raining and Samus is flying down through the clouds. I know a lot of people have been worried about this since Federation Force but Nintendo execs have listened and made sure another failure like that doesn't happen again. I can confirm that in Metroid Prime 4, the game does start you off with playing as Samus.
