Both cameras have HDR modes and can shoot RAW images if you want to get the best quality possible. For standard shots the Hero 10 is better but you don’t have the same creative options. The Hero 10 shoots at a higher resolution of 23mp which results in sharper images and better dynamic range. Photos shot with the Max top out at 18 megapixels and aren’t particularly sharp but there’s a lot that you can do with them. The Max allows you to shoot full panoramas, 360 images using two lenses and “normal” images using one lens. Once again the difference between the two cameras is quality vs creativity. It’s still a nice addition to be able to take some half decent stills every now and then. You probably won’t be buying either of these cameras for their photography prowess, in fact if you have a modern phone it will probably do a better job and have more options. The Max is amazing for creativity and unique shots but the quality will never be a match. The Hero 10 is great for maximum quality and pretty decent for action shots. These are two great cameras for shooting all types of videos but you’ll do it in very different ways. While the video resolution is no match for the Hero 10, it’s a great addition to an already diverse camera. This mode allows you to use just one of the two lenses to shoot normal, non 360 video this essentially makes the Max two cameras in one. One feature of the GoPro Max to consider is Hero Mode. Check out some of the shots in my GoPro Max review video to see what I mean. Shooting action shots with the Max looks almost like you are using professional stabilizing equipment. This might sounds a bit complicated but at the end of the day the Hero 10 video is sharper and clearer.ģ60 cameras are naturally great at stabilizing video thanks to all the information provided by the two lenses. That 5.6K has to cover 360 degrees field of view, whereas the Hero 10’s 5.3K only has to cover around 200 degrees. The Max can shoot 5.6K resolution video at 30fps and 3K While 5.6K is a higher resolution than the 5.3K of the Hero 10, don’t be fooled, the quality is not nearly as good. I shot all my test video using the built in auto settings, however there’s plenty of manual controls which will allow you to adjust your video depending on the envirnment you are in. The 5.3K resolution makes for a super crisp image and colors are vibrant without being unrealistic. The Hero 10 video quality is very impressive considering it can fit in the palm of your hand. This processor is the brain of the camera and it’s what makes it (probably) the best action camera on the market right now. This allows for better colors, higher resolution and more frame rate options. This is possible thanks to GoPro’s new processor, the GP2. This is the highest resolution camera that GoPro has ever made and the ability to shoot in 60fps is an impressive leap. The Hero 10 can shoot an impressive 5.3K resolution video at 60fps other options include 4K and 2.7K 240fps. Both of these cameras are great at both but for different reasons. GoPro’s cameras are well known as action cameras but I think they are also great as vlogging cameras too. GoPro Hero 10 vs GoPro Max: Videoīoth of these cameras are primarily used for shooting video so that’s where we will begin our comparison. On the plus side you can get super creative. This camera can also be used as an action and vlogging camera, however it requires a bit more editing to get the final product. The Max is a 360 camera which is a bit of a different beast it uses two lenses to capture the full 360 degrees field of video so you can capture everything around you at once. It’s a top class camera for the types of videos we are used to seeing on YouTube and is fairly easy to shoot with. The Hero 10 is a standard single lens action camera, it features two screens a built in mount and many video and photo options. Let’s take a moments to discuss the key differences between the two cameras before getting into the nitty gritty.
